Director's Statement
Soon after I joined the SoCal Film Group, I got an email from JoJo, a friend I'd met at the Austin Film Festival. I told her about the group and that I was hoping to shoot my first short sometime soon. In her response, she suggested I make one of those trailer things they show before the movies at the festival.
Her suggestion had far more appeal to me than my other ideas simply because the trailer would be limited to one minute. Surely, one minute would be easier than a ten minute short.
Easier, maybe, easy, no.
Though we decided to shoot a silent movie to ease production sound issues (my location owners/lead actors have three dogs), silent movies have other stylistic constraints that were crucial.
After one month of pre-production, a day of shooting in blazing hot weather, countless hours of post-production labor and at least 604 emails later, I'm proud to say that everyone on the team did an outstanding job making this short better than I'd imagined.
